This painting has a very simple and straight forward inspiration, and that is the year 2020. We all made plans that got cancelled or postponed (depending on your own perspective on life I guess) We all made effort to live a normal life one way or another. One could say we all pretended something to some level… And so I thought about our connections with friends, family and colleagues. This year has made virtual meetings “the thing to do”. But for me virtual meetings, or in fact any kind of online presence, is something to be questioned and never fully believed. It is like we always make the things in front of the camera look perfect, whilst leaving a mess where the camera can’t see.
